The Indochinese Leopard, scientifically known as Panthera pardus delacouri, is an intriguing and endangered subspecies found predominantly in the Indochinese peninsula. The leopard's historical range stretched from Myanmar and Thailand, through Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and into the Malay peninsula. However, habitat loss and poaching have critically endangered this leopard, with an estimated 1000 individuals remaining in the wild. The Indochinese Leopard, like other leopards, is a versatile and adaptable predator, capable of surviving in various habitats, from dry deciduous forests to coastal mangroves. Interestingly, this leopard subspecies is known for its exceptional climbing ability, often storing its captured prey high in the tree branches to protect it from other predators.
